World Cup Group G Review
The second to final group in this year's World Cup is Group G. This is made up of Brazil, Serbia, Switzerland, and Cameroon. Many people will want to watch this group, with Brazil likely to see this.
Brazil
The Number 1 ranked team going into this World Cup, Brazil, is the favourite to win this year. However, the last two World Cups have yet to be that successful, especially in 2014 when they were humiliated by Germany 7-1. Brazil will not be hoping for a repeat of this. Their star-studded team has to be the best or close to the best in the world. However, one player who stands out as their crucial man is Neymar. Having a fantastic season this year with PSG, he hopes he can carry this on to the World Cup.
The Pitchsider view is that Brazil will go on and win this group very successfully and will go very far. They are going to win this year’s world cup in the option of the Pitchsider. Therefore, Brazil will have a very successful World Cup; however, anyone can still beat them.
Serbia
One of the real dark horses of this competition is Serbia. They enjoyed an unbeaten run coming into this World Cup, finishing above Portugal. Therefore, many people have Serbia to attend at least the quarterfinals of this year's World Cup. Serbia has two men who will spearhead their World Cup: Vlahovic and Mitrovic. Both players are in good goal-scoring form and want to carry this on to push their country forward.
The Pitchsider View is that they will come second in the group. They have a brilliant to up from with a good team be hide them. They could go far and be one of the real surprises of this world cup, shocking a few good teams. They should be able to beat Switzerland and Cameroon but not brazil.
Switzerland
Many thought that, on the back of their success at Euro 2020, Italy would qualify for Qatar with ease. However, Switzerland was the one that dumped Roberto Mancini's side into the playoffs. Two draws against Italy wiped out their threat. Then Switzerland took care of business against Northern Ireland, Bulgaria and Lithuania by winning five out of six matches to claim the top spot in their group. Their crucial man is Xherdan Shaqiri. At the age of 31 and recently having moved to the MLS, Shaqiri is still a mercurial talent and has a dazzling trick or two up the sleeve that makes him a must-watch at international tournaments.
The Pitchsider View is that they will not be able to make it out of this group. Both Serbia and Brazil have a very strong squad that Switzerland will not be able to beat. Overall, they will finish third in their group with one win over Cameroon.
Cameroon
Cameroon is an exciting team in this group. They have a few strong players, but their key man is Karl Toko Ekambi; the Lyon forward has scored 12 goals in 50 caps for his country and spearheads an attack with strength in depth in the form of Vincent Aboubakar and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting. They also have a strong goalkeeper, with former Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana will be one of the most exciting goalkeepers in the tournament too.
The Pitchsider View is that they will not be able to make it out of this group. Both Serbia and Brazil have a very strong squad that Cameroon will not be able to beat. Overall, they will finish bottom of their group with no wins in this group.
Conclusion
This could be one of the best groups in the world cup, with Serbia and Brazil fighting for the top. I wouldn’t rule out Switzerland getting through after beating Italy. However, Cameroon will not make it through. But this group is one of the best to watch.
